So here is a traditional study I did of a Sabin Howard bronze sculpture. It's an older study and as such there are some areas I like and others that need work but I have to say, there's something wonderful about painting with a traditional media. Since teaching Color and Design I look back on this piece with some level of satisfaction but mostly I want to lock myself in my studio for a few days. :) So yea, hats off to the traditional painters...you can't "undo" and mixing is harder than it looks! :)
Secondly, with all the conflict and frustration in Wisconsin right now (over the fight about collective bargaining) I just wanted to say thank you to all my teachers over the years. Being on this side of the argument I have to say I'm surprised at the kind of things that people have said to me over the last week. I've been called greedy, lazy, entitled, a do nothing and a drain on the public dime. I guess that's something that teachers just have to accept but it's not easy. It's hard to have someone devalue the work you spend so much time doing. I don't see rich nurses, cops, firefighters, prison guards or teachers in any of the circles I run...and to call these folks greedy or lazy is to me, disheartening. So yea, I personally don't have a problem giving up some benefits for a while if it helps the state...but I would like to keep our collective bargaining rights and if it's not too much to ask, maybe a little kindness too.
